SHINGLE, ROOFING
(GLASS FELT)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers asphalt roofing in shingle form, composed of glass felt or felts impregnated and coated on both sides with asphalt, and surfaced on the weather side withn mineral granules. Shingles covered by this description are of two typres:
Type I – Self-sealing
Type II – Non-self-sealing
Salient characteristics
Shall be square tab, strip type unless otherwise specified.
Intended to be applied with exposure to the weather not exceeding 6 + 1/8 inches and with a headlap of not less than 2 inches.
Width and length shall be as specified with a tolerance of + 1/4 inch.
Color shall be as specified.
Shingles shall be asbestos free.
Conformance. Shingles shall meet or exceed the requirements of ASTM D3018. The issue in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with stated requirements. Shingles shall also meet the requirements of UL 790 and UL 997 and shall be UL Class A listed for fire and wind resistance.
Workmanship. Shingles shall be free of visible defects such as holes, ragged or untrue edges, breaks, cracks, tears, protuberances, indentations or any other defect which may affect their use and serviceability.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
Notes. Purchaser should specify width and length of shingle, shingle type if other than square tab, Type I or Type II, and color.
