COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SHINGLE, ROOFING
(ORGANIC FELT)
The General Services Administration has authorized
the use of this commercial item description.
This commercial item description covers asphalt roofing in shingle form composed of single or multiple thicknesses of organic felt saturated and coated on both sides with asphalt, and surfaced on the weather side with mineral granules. Shingles shall be available in the following types as specified:
Type I - Uniform thickness shingles of any style
Type II - Thick butt, square tab, strip shingles
Salient characteristics.
Intended to be applied with exposure to the weather not exceeding 5-5/8 + 1/8 inches and with a headlap of not less than 2 inches.
Width and length shall be as specified and with a tolerance of > 1/4 inch.
Color shall be as specified.
Shingles shall be asbestos-free.
Conformance. Shingles shall meet or exceed the requirements of ASTM 0225. The issue in effect on the date of the solicitation shall be used to determine compliance with stated requirements. Shingles must also meet or exceed the requirements of UL 558 and shall be UL Class C listed.
Workmanship. Shingles shall be free of visible defects such as holes, ragged or untrue edges, breaks, cracks, tears, protuberances, indentations or any other defect which may affect their appearance or serviceability,
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. The preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
Notes. Purchaser should specify type, width, and length of shingle and color.
When this commercial item description is used for procurement the commercial item certification clause must appear in the solicitation.
